Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th December 2020 – The Lord Is Our Deliverer

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Monday 28th December 2020. Be inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!

TOPIC: THE LORD IS OUR DELIVERER

Opening Prayer: Grant me depth of insight, revelation and knowledge as I meditate on this passage, O Lord.

Scripture: Psalm 124:1–8

Reflection:
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th December 2020

Notice how the Psalmist is so overwhelmed by the traps his enemies had set for him (vv.1–5). Observe also his acknowledgement of the role the Lord played in his deliverance (v.2). Do you acknowledge God in all things that he does in your life? Often, we have a false sense of our sufficiency and skilfulness in manoeuvring through the problems that face us.

But remember that all we have and are able to do comes from the all–powerful and all–sufficient God! Whenever we are confronted by the challenges of life, let us remember and be re–assured that we have God by our side (v.1). He will always provide a way of escape and grant us the grace to overcome. Meditate on the promise in v.8.

If God does not help us, nobody can. We are blessed, indeed, when we have the God who made the heavens and the earth as our helper. He has all the power and resources to help us in our time of need. The safest place to run to when we are in trouble is the presence of God.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
• And So: “If the Son, Jesus of Nazareth, sets us free, we will then be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Prayer:
• Meditate carefully on each line of this Psalm. Put your name in place of Israel to personalise it and pray God’s word in joyous thanksgiving!
• Thank God for His love, making the way for the gospel train to keep moving on in spite of oppositions. Pray against laws in Europe, U.S.A. and Canada that are repressing Christians, under the false guise of freedom, diversity and inclusiveness
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with I Chronicles 22:12

Read the Bible in one Year: Zech. 9–12; Luke 23:26–56
