Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th July 2024: Action And Consequence

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 28 July 2024 (Sunday)

TODAY’S TOPIC: ACTION AND CONSEQUENCE
OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.

SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 26:1-20

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 28th July 2024 Outline:

The first law of God is total commitment to Him – no worship of idols or images (vs.1-2). Sabbath observance and regular worship at the sanctuary were all to help guard against the corruptions of the Canaanite religion.

There are series of blessings most of which are prefaced by the phrase, “I will”. Read these verses again and note the rewards that obedience to the covenant requirements bring. The punishments are also distinctly listed from v.14. The possibility that God’s people will act with deliberate contempt of Him necessitated the whole list of curses. Do these curses have any relevance for us today? Punishments of sudden terror, drought and famine are all terrible omens.

However, we must be careful never to fall into the error of thinking if things are alright with us; it means we are necessarily approved by God or that if bad things happen to us, we have definitely disobeyed His instructions. Good things happen to bad people and bad things to good people. See Matthew 5:45, John 9:2,3, and Luke 13:1-5.

I want Jesus to walk with me
1. I want Jesus to walk with me.
I want Jesus to walk with me.
All along my pilgrim journey,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.

2. In my trials, Lord, walk with me.
In my trials, Lord, walk with me.
When my heart is almost breaking,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.

3. When I’m in trouble, Lord, walk with me.
When I’m in trouble, Lord, walk with me.
When my head is bowed in sorrow,
Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me.

Closing Prayer
Empower me, Lord, to live a disciplined life of obedience so nothing in my life competes with my love and loyalty to you.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Job 42:10
“And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.”
