TODAY’S OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 2TH MARCH 2021 ONLINE

Notice that Peter was able to follow Jesus to the courtyard when other Disciples had fled vs. 56, 57, but observe what was said about him and what he did (v. 57). Compare his actions with his ‘resolutions’ or ‘boasts’ earlier in vs. 33, 35. Miscarriage of justice occurs in many spheres of life. Jesus was led away to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest.

His trial was conducted in the dead of the night and judgment passed on Him without a proper hearing. The trial was arranged just to find evidence to fit the verdict of death already passed (vs.57–59; compare Deuteronomy 19:15–19). Many vile courts employ false tactics like this. This was also the case with Stephen (see Acts 6:11–14). Take note that, while all these intrigues and scheming were going on, Jesus did not say anything (v.63).

What do you think was the secret behind Jesus’ ability to hold His peace amidst all the plotting against Him? However, Jesus could not remain silent when questioned about the truth for which He came into the world (vs.61–64). The high priest accused Jesus of blasphemy, but the truth is clear – Jesus is indeed the Son of God and Son of Man. He is the soon-coming King (v.64; cf. Matthew 24:30).

Read vs.67-68 and note the physical abuse Jesus suffered at the hands of the religious leaders in full view of the high priest. How different are our leaders, religious or secular, today?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the injustices you went through for me. Help me to be like you in the face of persecution.
• Thank God for the blood of Jesus that was shed for our salvation and total deliverance.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 149:4
• Prov. 13-15; Titus 2
