Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd May 2026 – Oultine

Read vs.11–13 again. Why would Moab be judged? Unlike Israel and Judah, Moab enjoyed peace and prosperity – no wars, no pestilence. Consequently, Moab became complacent and arrogant. She placed confidence in her fortification, riches, god, and military might (vs.7,14). But Moab would be poured from jar to jar (v.12) so that her complacency could be removed, like the dreg (impurity) at the bottom of the wine, which only gets removed as the wine is poured from one jar to another (v.11). God would do this using the Babylonians to destroy and disgrace Moab (vs.1,8,9,15,20).

In what ways does complacency manifest in our lives, churches and nations today?
Like Moab, many have become servants of modern idols – money, profession, material things, technological gadgets, power, pleasure, fame, etc., which lead to false security. Could God be using some of the political and economic upheavals of our time to “pour us from jar to jar” so we can repent and return to Him?

V.10 is a message to the Babylonians, who were on assignment for the Lord. What warning is there for us?
So what? There is a thin line between contentment and complacency. Where do you stand? Are you content?

Prayer:
Dear Lord, may I never become complacent because of your blessings in my life but rather learn to be thankful and trust you in all situations.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK:
* Pray for peace in Africa and the nations of the world.
* Pray particularly for regions where there is war and crisis, that peace will be restored.
