Do You Know That? Daily Guide Reading is published by Scripture Union Press & Books Ltd, an arm of Scripture Union Nigeria. TODAY’S TOPIC: TESTIFYING TO THE LAMB OF GOD

Opening Prayer: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 1:29-42

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 January 2024

Notice the clear testimony of John again about Jesus in vs.29, 35-36 (see Isaiah 53:7). The human form of the Son of God was just like any other man. How was John able to identify Him among the crowd? See vs.32-33. God’s Spirit is still the only one who helps us to know the Lord. Notice John’s willingness to introduce and release his disciples to Jesus. This is quite different from the way some Christian leaders hold on tightly to their members.

Andrew was one of the first apostles whom Jesus Christ recruited. What else do we know about him? Two other stories in the Gospels relate to him (see John 6:8-9, and 12:20-22). Other than these, we heard nothing more about his work or life as an apostle. But the impact of his ministry has remained with us today. He introduced Simon Peter to Christ and Peter became a pillar of the church. What does this tell us about the value of personal witness which may initially bring only one or two people to the Lord?

Our work as witnesses, as shown by Andrew and John the Baptist, is simply to introduce people to the Lord. Conversion is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Practice/Word Application
So what? “If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot pray like Paul, you can tell the love of Jesus, and say, ‘He died for all’.” (From the hymn: There is a balm in Gilead).

Hymn: Our God, our help in ages past

1. O God, our Help in ages past,
our Hope for years to come,
our Shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal Home.

2 Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
sufficient is Thine arm alone,
and our defense is sure.

3 Before the hills in order stood,
or earth received its frame,
from everlasting Thou art God,
to endless years the same.

4 A thousand ages in Thy sight
are like an evening gone,
short as the watch that ends the night
before the rising sun.

5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream
bears all its sons away;
they fly forgotten, as a dream
dies at the op’ning day.

6 O God, our Help in ages past,
our Hope for years to come,
be Thou our Guard while life shall last,
and our eternal Home!

Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, please help me to tell someone about the salvation you offer free by grace through faith.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 68:35
