Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 December 2025 Outline
The Lord detests the proud. Instead of becoming swollen-headed for any reason, He demands humble confession of our sins. Jeremiah warns the royalty that their subjugation is at hand. Instead of exalting themselves, they should rather in humility, lay their crowns before the Lord and plead for His mercy. Why (Jeremiah 13:22,25b,27). The leaders have failed in their responsibility and misled the flock kept in their care. Both they and the people have gone away from God into idolatry, a sin that will only result in rejection, utter defeat by their enemies and captivity.
Notice the good example of prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 13:17. The true prophet of God vehemently renounces sin in the nation and declares God’s judgment against sin openly but goes behind his doors to weep for the nation and plead for God’s mercy.
People do try to change the colour of their skin (Jeremiah 13:23). Some Africans (Ethiopians) use special creams to lighten their colour while the Europeans travel to the tropics to suntan (darken their colour or skin). All soon realise that whatever ‘change’ they achieve is superficial. We can never in our own power change our ingrained habits. Effective and eternal change comes only by humbling ourselves in repentance and seeking God’s intervention.
And So
Learn from and follow the example of pagan Ninevites in Jonah 3.
