Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th August 2025 Outline

Compare what Jesus Christ says in Matthew 19:23 with what He says in Matthew 19:24. In the first, He says it is difficult, but the second goes further. It is not merely difficult. It is actually impossible! Not surprisingly, the disciples are alarmed. After all, they have done what the rich young man failed to do. They have left all to follow Jesus.

It is true that they were not rich like him; but they have not left 50% or even 90% of their possessions, but 100%. Take note that they did not simply leave it all, but they left it in order to follow Jesus (Matthew 19:27). That is what makes the difference: “for my name’s sake” (Matthew 19:28). On their own, whether rich or poor, they cannot attain to the Kingdom. With God, however, all things are possible.

Not all of us are called to leave all our worldly possessions in order to follow Jesus, but some are. Take note of the reward awaiting those who answer such a call in Matthew 19:29. God is not a bad employer! Pray today for all who are struggling to keep up with their calling in Christ that they may take Romans 8:18 to heart.
