Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 October 2023
Here we see Israel’s and Syria’s downfall. They had come together to invade Judah, but God had given them another sign through the birth and the name given to the second son of Isaiah. The name, ‘Maher-shalal-hash-baz’ meant ‘Quick loot, fast plunder’ (GNB v.1) and was publicly announcing to the people that Judah’s enemies will be defeated quickly. The people of Judah refused to believe and therefore rejected God and preferred seeking for help from the Assyrians.
Read vs.5-9 and note that despite Isaiah’s warnings and signs given by God, and the assurance that God was with them, the people of Judah chose to reject the word of the Lord through His prophet. Sadly, we at times behave like the people of Judah. We refuse to trust in God and His prophet/word and put our hope on what we can see.
From vs.12-18 we see that we must not enter into partnership with the heathen but trust and fear only God (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
Read vs.19-22 again and see how we plunge ourselves into utter darkness because of fear and unbelief.
