TODAY’S OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 7TH JANUARY 2021

As the proverb says, “A snake will always give birth to something long.” We referred to John 8:44 yesterday about the children of the devil. Today’s passage tells us what we need to do in our effort to emulate the character of God, our father.

Even though it might not be an easy road to travel, we must bear in mind that Jesus Christ has shown us the way by His exemplary life. God has also given us His Spirit to help us live a life that pleases Him. God wants us to live by these standards that is why He took time to teach on it.

In contrast to the Old Testament standards of ‘eye for an eye’ and ‘tooth for a tooth’ (Exodus 21: 22 – 24), God expects us to forgive one another (Romans 12:17-21), be truthful in all our dealings and express love to all men (even to our perceived enemies, vs.44-47).

By constantly following the footsteps of our Father, the perfect God, we would gradually be working our way to perfection (v.48). Take time to reflect on the new principle Jesus has given to guide our reaction to those who treat us wrongly or deny us our rights (vs.39-42).

Closing Prayer:
• Pray for God’s forgiveness and ask Him to lead you into the right path. • Thank God for the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 17:2 – as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He [a ] should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.
