Scripture Union Daily Guide 7th June 2025 Outline

Read Acts 10:1-4 again and note Cornelius’ religious credentials. But was he a Christian? Indeed, openness to the gospel and encounter with our Lord Jesus is the condition for becoming a Christian (Acts 10:34-36,43; John 3:3,5). In as much as these godly qualities are good, Cornelius needs to know and believe in Christ Jesus. Hence, God arranges for a preacher (Peter) to accomplish this (Acts 10:5-20). The Lord is still in the business of sending unsaved souls to us in our day-to-day encounters.

If God had not intervened, Peter’s deep-rooted belief and upbringing in Judaism would have prevented him from accomplishing God’s heart-beat mission (Acts 9:11-23a). Consider other barriers that can also prevent a Christian from preaching the gospel to perishing souls. Nonetheless, if one is not careful, “holier than thou” attitude, justified hatred, denominational dogmas, ignorance of the scriptures, excuses, convenience, norms, etc., can prevent us from carrying out the task of preaching the gospel to all nations (Mark 16:15).

Some Christians though knowledgeable in scriptures, are selective in obeying the word of God. As we study and meditate on the scriptures, let us open ourselves to God and allow Him to make changes in our lives.
