OPENING PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 8:1-17

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 June 2024 Outline:

The ordination of Aaron and his sons into the office and ministry of priesthood was a very solemn event. Aaron had more pieces added to his vestments compared with his sons’. All of them were involved in the sin offering (bull to be sacrificed) and the burnt offering (a ram is to be sacrificed for that). Both Aaron and his sons had to make atonement for their own sins before they could act on behalf of others (vs.14-17; compare Exodus 29:10-14). Similarly, to qualify to serve God, Jesus atoned our sins in a much more powerful way (Isaiah 53:6). He is our sinless High Priest and our perfect sacrifice.

In vs.7-13, we notice the need to be dressed appropriately and anointed for God’s work. This, however, is not necessarily about special regalia and pouring of oil on the head, but about our lives and being spiritually endowed (see Acts 1:8). Our dress should be the righteousness of God and our anointing, the power of the Holy Spirit.
