Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th June 2026 – Outline
Have you ever lost something precious? How did you feel when you found it (v.6)? What does this teach us about the value God places over a human soul? See vs.4-6; Matthew 8:32.
The response of Jesus to the grumblings of the Pharisees and teachers of the Law shows where the sinners will be in the kingdom of God when they repent. The Pharisees claimed ignorance that all humans are sinners (Roman 3:23). They distance themselves from sinners and condemn others. This is not true love, whereas the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were avoiding the ‘sinners’.
This attitude of ‘holier than thou’ is common today. If heaven rejoices over a repented soul, what lesson is there for us, especially in evangelism (v.7; Mathew 28:19-20)? Unfortunately, we are busy condemning people instead of pursuing the Great Commission.
The salvation of lost souls stimulates joy in Heaven. How many people in your congregation are truly saved and heaven is rejoicing over their lives? Note that it is not because they are regular attendees in the church and partakers in the Holy Communion!
Thought: Has heaven gained either by your surrendering to the lordship of Christ, or by winning a soul to the kingdom through your witnessing?
Prayer: Oh Lord, help me to be a channel that brings joy to you through my witness.
