Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 December 2022

Have you ever lost hope in anything? And how did you find strength and courage to move on? The ship crew had not heeded Paul’s initial warning and this had caused them to reach a desperate moment when they had to take desperate action (vs.15‐20). All hope was lost but not for the man of God. Paul’s response to this situation is remarkable! As a man who lived by faith, not by sight, he brought back hope for a new day. This time around, they obeyed him. Believers ought to be beacons of hope to the hopeless world in which we live (Matthew 5:13‐14).

We have not been called into the state of despair when the world around us is in crisis. Our hope in Christ gives us courage to stand firm! As William Barclay writes, “The man of God is the man whose courage stands when terror invades the hearts of others.” It is worth noting that Satan has tried in several ways to prevent Paul from reaching Rome contrary to God’s plan in 23:11. See Acts 23:12‐15; 24:26‐27; 25:9. Now he faces the serious storm that threatens to sink the ship and destroy everyone on board. More perilous times are yet to come, throwing the world into much confusion, but the faithful God is in full control. Paul was confident nothing could prevent him from going to Rome.

Practice/Word Application
