Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 July 2024 Outline:
If there is a man who understands what grace is and fully appreciates it, that man is Paul. Notice the depth from which Christ saved him (vs.13, 15-16). He was not only saved, but he was also commissioned to play a special role in spreading the gospel of grace. God’s grace was indeed ‘poured out …abundantly’ on him (v.14), and he remained ever grateful for that.
He never shied away from sharing his testimony so all may know that no one is too sinful to receive God’s grace. Christ came into the world to save sinners. Anyone who recognises his sins, confesses them, and accepts the forgiveness that Christ offers to all will be saved.
For some people, the problem is the opposite of Paul’s. They do not consider themselves sinners. When we compare ourselves with others, we think we are okay. How wrong? See Romans 3:23, Isaiah 64:6. The more we get closer to God, the more we recognise our sinfulness and the more we appreciate what God has done to save us.
Practice/Word Application
And so? Praise the Lord with this SU chorus:
O, the love that drew salvation’s plan.
O, the grace that brought it down to man.
O, the mighty gulf that God did span, at Calvary.
Mercy there was great, and grace was free.
Pardon there was multiplied to me.
There my burden soul found liberty, at Calvary.
