Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th December 2023
At times we feel so distant and far away from God when we desire His help and cry to Him to come to our rescue (vs.1-2). But God is always near to those who trust Him. Do you feel God is far from you (read James 4:8)? We cry to God for help with all our being. David recognizes his limitation. He cannot rescue himself from the enemy, so he can only turn to God (v.3). Notice the other descriptions of God, who He is and what He does in vs.2-5. Like the hen does for her young ones, “shelter of your wings” (v.4) suggests that God protects His children, from the ‘hawks’ and other attackers in life.
The second half of the Psalm (vs.6-8) is a prayer for the King’s security. The King or President is the centre of social order. His stability and the stability of his office affects the whole community or nation. Therefore, we are to pray for the king, president, and key leaders (see 1 Timothy 2:1-2). “May He be enthroned forever before God” (v.7). Jesus Christ, David’s son, fulfilled this verse.
