TOPIC: DISCONNECT FROM THE PAST

SCRIPTURE: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. PHILIPPIANS 3:13-14

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Those who are married to the past are divorced from the future.

It has been confirmed that no one can walk backwards into the future; it is simply not possible. If your life is focused on the past, then you are moving backwards.

Some time ago, a young man sent me a text, telling me about the events of his life over the past seventeen years. He mentioned in that message someone who hurt or offended him at that time. I replied and said to him, “I am so surprised that these things are still in your heart. How can you step into your tomorrow when your past is so important to you?” I told him not to send me any message again unless it has something to do with progress.

Many people complain about how others wronged them or how everyone else is against them. Even when God is now helping them in some measure, they still want to stick with the past.

The truth is, those who are married to the past are divorced from the future. Who hurt you yesterday? Who offended your parents yesterday? Who ignored you during your school days? Who jilted you? Who refused to marry you? If you remain married to these past pains, you will be separated and disconnected from your future. It is time to let go. It is time to separate yourself from that painful past.

Beloved, take your mind off your negative past experiences and hurts. This is because where your mind is focused determines where you will end up. Where you face determines where you go. Those who look forward move forward, but those who look backward move backwards. To always look down, which is a sign of depression, is to go down and that puts life in a declining mode.

But looking up towards God, from where help comes, lifts you higher. To look up is to go up.
Beloved, God is saying: “separate yourself from your past so you can disconnect from past hurts and offences.”

REMEMBER THIS: Those who are married to the past are divorced from the future.

ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Make a conscious effort to forget everything that is behind, so you can pursue the things that are in front of you with focus, strength and vigour.
2. Forgive and disconnect from past hurts.

PRAYER: Father, help me to forget those things which are behind so I can reach forth to those things which are before. I receive the grace to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, Lord in Jesus’ Name.
