TODAY’S TOPIC: DON’T GO BACK
SCRIPTURE: “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.” (Matthew 25: 6)
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
Our Focal Scripture speaks of how, at midnight, a call was made to announce the arrival of the bridegroom. Midnight is the time between one day and another. It is symbolic of transition. It was in that season of transition that the foolish virgins went out to buy oil. The bridegroom had arrived, they had come to the place of their encounter, they had arrived at their transition, and they chose to walk away because they didn’t have oil. In their transition season, they stepped backwards.
Friend, in your season of transition, when you must move into the new, don’t go backwards. In your season of transition, when there is a becoming beckoning on you, don’t disqualify yourself. In seasons of transition, you move forward; you don’t go backwards. In your season of transition, you do not focus on why you will not make it; you focus on the fact that you were invited. In your season of transition, you do not focus on your imperfection; you focus on the mercies of God.
Notice that the Bridegroom never even asked only those who had oil in their lamps, to come into the marriage feast. He made no demand on perfection. All that was needed was for those who were ready to go in. Your transition season does not make a demand on perfection; it only makes a demand on forward movement. Don’t stay where your weaknesses kept you. Don’t stay in your errors. Don’t compound your errors.
In 2023, there may be times when you are low on oil; don’t let it make you walk away from the Bridegroom. Don’t let any error to make you go backwards. Don’t let the mistakes that have caught up with you to make you abandon your journey. Don’t allow the imperfections you are struggling with, to make you go back. Don’t disqualify yourself because your oil is not enough; don’t disqualify yourself because others have more oil than you have.
In 2023, make a commitment to move forward no matter what is missing. Let your movement be towards the Bridegroom.
Luke 9:62 says: “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Declare With Me: No matter how low I am on oil, I won’t go back; I move forward, in Jesus’ name!
