STREAMS OF JOY DEVOTIONAL 31 JULY 2022, SUNDAY

TODAY’S TOPIC: FIGHT YOUR BATTLES

SCRIPTURE: “And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.” (2 Kings 9: 5)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
When the trainee prophet that was to anoint Jehu came to Ramothgilead, he found the captains of the host sitting with Jehu who was also a captain. So the person whom God had selected to be the next king of Israel was a captain. The word ‘captain’ is a military term; a captain leads men in battle. So Jehu was a warrior. He had been through battles. He may have had scars from his battles, but they were all a preparation for kingship.

Friend, your battles are mere preparations for kingship. Your warfare is a signature of grace that says you are qualified to rise to the next level. The opposition you have faced is a sign of greater thrones that will come your way in a matter of time. You may have been wounded by some battles already, but God says, it is all a part of the story of your rise to royalty. You may have faced more battles than those around you, and God says, it is a mere foretaste of your thrones and crowns.

Don’t ever come to a point where you wish you never had battles to fight. Your battles have built your spiritual muscles to be able to survive on the throne. Some battles are the reasons why your prayer fire is still burning. Some battles simply revealed who your true enemies are. Some battles may have taught you to know the difference between what is important and what is not important. Some battles have simply prepared you for more. Some battles should be part of your qualifications.

At some point, David reminded Saul about how he had dealt with the lions and the bear whilst in the bush (see 1 Samuel 17), and how that Goliath would be as one of them. David simply cited his past battles as a preparation for the bigger battle he was about to win. Celebrate your old battles, because they just might have prepared you for more wins. Those attacks of the enemy in time past were mere preparations for your rising.

Don’t even seek to be on the throne until you have been toughened by battles. Whatever battles life brings your way, fight it with all you have in you, and defeat the enemy.
Psalm 18: 39 says: “For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.”

Declare With Me: I move from battles to royalty, in Jesus’ name!
