The Upper Room 19 February 2024 Devotional: Calling All Angels

Read and Study Today’s The Upper Room Daily Devotional for February 19th, 2024 Message written by Elly Sheeley (Massachusetts, USA). God bless you as you study today! Please share with your friends and loved ones.

Psalm 91:1-13

God’s angels are all around me. I will watch for them.

[The Lord] will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. – Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

In July 2020, I was diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer with metastases to other organs, and the prognosis was not optimistic. As I left the doctor’s office, I thought of one of my favorite songs. The lyrics speak about calling angels to help so you don’t have to walk alone. So I called, and many responded, including family, friends, church family, neighbors, healthcare professionals, and members of The Upper Room family from around the world.

My treatment was set to begin mid-September. On September 1st, my pastor dropped off the September/October issue of The Upper Room, along with my favorite soup. The first meditation was written by an oncology nurse! And the meditations continued to speak to me throughout the rest of the issue. I still have that issue and plan to keep it.

I consider all these people God’s angels who walk the earth. They have answered my call; I have not walked alone. As I write this, things are good. Not all days are easy, but I know God’s angels are always just around the corner — maybe with a smile, a “good morning,” or a delivery of food. Angels walk the earth; watch for them.

Thank you, God, for those you have sent to watch over us and walk beside us through difficult times. Grant us peace of body, mind, and spirit. Amen.

Gratitude for the angels among us
