Anglican Daily Fountain 25 September 2023 (Devotional Today)

Welcome to Today’s Daily Fountain Devotional of the Anglican Church of Nigeria. Daily Fountain is a daily reading devotional for all Anglicans and Non-Anglicans to read, study, share and discuss the Word of God on a daily basis.

TOPIC: THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

TEXT: Matthew 22:34-40(KJV)
22:34. But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
22:35. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36. Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
22:37. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38. This is the first and great commandment.
22:39. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
22:40. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Anglican Daily Fountain 25 September 2023 STUDY:

One would wonder how the entire laws of God and all that the prophets spoke about will be so simply summarised by Jesus Christ our Lord and Master in: “Love the Lord… with all… and your neighbour as yourself. Serving GOD without your ‘ALL’ is worthless and loving your neighbour less of yourself is no love at all. When our hearts, souls, and mind are given to GOD, everything will fall into place; so also when we learn to treat our neighbour as much as we would want to be treated, hardly would there be strife.

Our inability to give GOD ‘ALL’ is reflected in our attitudes to the work of GOD. GOD’s work should be done decently, passionately and in uprightness. Anyone who has given GOD ‘All’ has nothing more to keep back. He becomes a vessel that is fit for the Master’s use unto every good work. On the other hand, when we love our neighbours indeed, we can be said to have fulfilled the Lord’s command. Ultimately, to love GOD is to have Jesus in our hearts and to love our neighbours as ourselves is to let the Jesus inside us be seen in our outward action. Love God and love your neighbour as yourself, and you have fulfilled all ofGod’s command.

PRAYER: May we be taught to be like you, O Christ and help us to fulfil your demands. Amen!
