The distribution of land is important but much more important is the God who allocates the land out of His generosity and faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. With clear boundary demarcations, we can avoid what we know today as tribal clashes. Our God is God of order and fairness. Consider what He said about the Zadokites in v.11 and the special gift they received as a result (v.12). Unlike their fellow Levites, the Zadokites were found faithful when others failed.
What are the things challenging our faithfulness to the Lord these days? Notice how the land apportioned to the Levites and priests is described and for which reason it cannot be sold (v.14). The long list of names we have in our readings today is for a purpose. God knows all of us by name even before we were shaped in the womb. He has a plan for each one and supplies all our needs according to His plan. Let us learn to trust Him. Let us also reflect on the centrality of the sanctuary in the life of the community.
