• Is there any warning for me to heed?
• What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 17th March 2022 Devotional | Outline

The Lord Jesus came “to seek and to save sinners”; but also “to cast fire on the earth”. In v.50, “baptism” is a symbol of death to an old way of life and rising to a new way of life. The Lord Jesus accepts His role to bring salvation or new life to people (see John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died because of our sins and He was raised to life to make us right with God (Romans 4:5, NLT). The entrance of the gospel to a family brings division (vs.51–53).

Why? Which side of the divide are you on? If you are on the inside, what steps are you taking to bring other members of your family in? We are able to interpret the weather and tell it is going to rain because of where and how the clouds have formed. But not too many people are able to recognise the presence of Christ and His Holy Spirit’s work among them in the Church or Community (vs.54‐56). There is a good advice that when you know your case is weak, seek to settle the matter before it gets to the magistrate court.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Father God, thank you for my new life in Jesus Christ. Please help me to be an instrument of reconciling my family, community, and nation to you.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
Philippians 4:13; Numbers 23, 24, Psalms 36, Acts 9
