It seems like these two disciples had called it quit and were going back home, but Love that would not let them go drew near. Have you come to some dead end, not knowing what to do next? Wait for the Lord a little bit longer. Do not give up yet.

You will soon hear His voice saying to you, “This is the way, walk in it!” (Isaiah 30:20,21). Note that, “the things concerning Himself,” which Jesus explained, begins with Moses and runs through the prophets. We will be very poor New Testament Christians indeed if we neglect our study of the Old Testament. We pick two essential marks of a Christian from the passage.

First is a passionate love for the word of God and for the messenger of the word. This is what led the two disciples to invite a complete stranger to spend the night with them. The second is a desire to share the good news with others. The great commission to make disciples of all nations is for all believers. Note also the power of God’s Word as it burns in the heart of the believer (v.32). See also Hebrews 4:12?
