Notice how David describes his enemies in v.17. But he happily testifies that the Lord rescued him from them. Do you also know of enemies from whom God has rescued you? If so, then give God praise. How do you understand vs.19‐24? Does it seem to contradict the doctrine of salvation by grace? Could King David’s own righteousness ever save him? Certainly not!
In these verses, David is possibly recalling how even though Saul sought to kill him on several occasions, David refused to kill him since he is God’s anointed king. See 1 Samuel 24:6. What are some problems which could arise in your relationship with others which, for Christ’s sake, you would choose to let go and forgive?
What are the choices we are encouraged to make according to vs.25‐27 so we can enjoy God’s favour, and which choices are we to avoid? When we humbly submit our lives to the Lord, He lights our lamp and lightens our darkness (v.28). Notice how much heavenly power comes to us when we are fully yielded and available to God (v.29).
