MESSAGE: MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 18TH MARCH 2022 | FRIDAY

Every believer has been called into a life of fruitfulness in Christ. This is evident in the memory verse of today. These fruits are the result of abiding in Christ, who is the Vine, while we are the branches.

We cannot afford to be unproductive; else we risk being cut off and cast into the fire. In the same vein, the productive branches shall be further pruned to bring forth more fruit. This refers to the fruit of righteousness, as we are the planting of the Lord (Isaiah 61:3)

These fruits are products of our Christian work, our labour of love. Above all, the fruit of the Spirit is the product of our spiritual relationship with the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God the Father and God the Son. Here, the Bible is referring to the mind of Christ and His attributes. No
wonder, it is one fruit with nine components, which are individually peculiar, yet intertwined. That is, you cannot have one component without the eight others. It’s either all or none!

Strongly opposed and contrary to the works of the flesh which make men candidates of hell (v.19-21), the fruit of the Holy Spirit is what qualifies you as a true child of God, joint-heirs with
Christ and a candidate of heaven. The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. gentleness and self-control (also called temperance), according to Galatians 5:22-23(NKJV).

This fruit is not optional in the life of a Christian. It is unconditional if truly you are God’s own. It is quite different from the gifts of the Spirit. One is free, while the other requires your efforts to possess and manifest it. The Holy Spirit gives the gifts freely to everyone to profit (1 Corinthians 12:7). However, you must be ready to work and cultivate the fruit of the Spirit. As you labour to acquire it, one by one, you are taken through a divine process of shaping and transformation in the hands of the Lord, thereby becoming a new creature.
