TODAY’S TOPIC: BE DIFFERENT
SCRIPTURE: “And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.” (1 Samuel 17: 38)

That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
Our Focal Scripture speaks of that moment when Saul offered his entire armour to David. The plan was for David to go and confront Goliath while wearing the armour of Saul. In previous verses, an elaborate description was given concerning the armour of Goliath. So Saul attempted to make David to look like Goliath. He attempted to give David the identity of the challenge that he needed to confront and conquer.
Friend, in all your doings, never take on the identity of whatever battle you are fighting. Never appear like the same ‘Goliath’ you were raised to bring down. Never look like what you are fighting. Never take on the identity of the negativity you are grappling with. Do not become the very thing you are fighting against. Do not embrace the character of the same things you have been mandated to bring down. Do not look like your ‘Goliath’.
Saul had tried to look like Goliath by wearing elaborate armour, but all he achieved was to be terrified each time Goliath turned up. Looking like Goliath did not make it easier for Saul to conquer him. If you keep taking on the identity of the Goliath you should arise and conquer, you may never conquer your Goliath. If you keep embracing the identity and character of the enemy, you will never prevail over your battles against him.
It is an error to take on the identity of the enemy. It is an error to desire to defeat the enemy, yet wearing the same cloak. It is an error to be desiring to break out of bondage, yet appearing like the same bondage you want to break out from. It is an error to desire victory, yet appearing like the same battle that is against you. You cannot change it if you keep looking like it. You cannot turn it around if you keep mimicking it.
Don’t be counted amongst them that share in the identity of the same battles they want to conquer. Don’t make the mistake of taking on the identity of your ‘Goliath’.
2 Corinthians 6: 17 says: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,”
Declare With Me: I refuse to take on the character and identity of what God has ordained me to change, in Jesus’ name!
