TOPIC: EVANGELISM: GOD’S HEARTBEAT (3) FULFILLING THE UNFINISHED TASK

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Job 10:12; Proverbs 11:30; Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 13:30; Luke 2:49; James 5:20.

Memory Verse: Go ye therefore, and TEACH all nations, baptizing them in the name of the FATHER, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matt. 28:19.

COMPELLING TASK OF THE GREAT COMMISSION
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? Luke 2:49. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4

The devotion, desire and successful business strategies, which Jesus employed in evangelism, are compelling enough thus leaving us without any EXCUSE whatsoever. To confine ourselves in the false comfort of the church and pretend that all is well, while millions are perishing, languishing and swimming in the deadly ocean of iniquity is the height of deceit.
From the days of John the Baptist to the Apostles, Evangelism remained a burning frontline Project in their agenda. The shift we experience today completely negates the passion and vision of the Master.

KEYNOTES
1. The task of evangelism is URGENT and a MUST. Ezek. 33:8; Luke 10:3; John 9:4.
2. It is a ministry opened to all. If you cannot preach like the Your Pastor, you can simply invite someone to follow you to church; you can equally pay the price of bringing him. You can share a tract. Ezek. 3:18-19; 1 Cor. 3:6-9.
3. It requires priority attention, do all that is necessary to bring sinners out of damnation. Luke 2:49; Acts 6:4; 2 Cor. 5:11.

PRACTICAL STEPS TO EFFECTIVE SOUL-WINNING
a) Create an opportunity from the action, discussion, behaviour of the individual you intend to win. Luke 24:13-17; 27; John 4:7-14; Acts 8:32-40
b) Avoid being confrontational. You can effectively confront and conquer a sinner without being confrontational. John 4:16-29; 8:3-11.

c) Be patient, attentive to hear and depend on the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you to relevant scriptures. Luke 12:12; John 3:1-7
d) Your personal salvation testimony, lifestyle in the community where you live must speak well of your doctrine and what you preach 2 Cor. 3:1-3; 2 Tim 2:2.

e) Avoid foolish arguments; counter claims on doctrinal issues or superiority. 2 Tim 2:23; Titus 3:9-11
f) Be polite but very firm in rebuking or correcting sinners John 8:3-11
g) Be very careful of what you do or say when under pressure and you must have a good working knowledge of the Acts 8:35, 23:1-5.

h) It is safer not to quote a portion of the Bible you are not sure of than to wrongly quote.
i) An overview knowledge of the Bible is important so that you can easily debunk wrong quotations, For instance, heaven helps those who help themselves or when a scripture is quoted out of context: Flee from the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

A CLASSICAL VIEW OF JESUS MODEL APPROACH TO WINNING A SOUL (John 4:1-30)
1. Approach the individual in a social and polite manner of avoiding any tribal sentiments, outstanding disputes etc. John 4:1-7
2. Establish an interest that will suit you and the person. Refuse to be diverted or distracted John 4:7-8
3. Arouse the interest of the person, probably through your testimony John 4:9-15
4. Don’t apply “holier than thou attitude” nor write the person off. John 4:20-25

5. Be focused, avoiding any form of distraction, side comments or any action that will make the individual reserve or hide the truth, etc. John 4:20-25;
6. Don’t be overtaken by the discussion. Note when it is best to directly confront with the word of God. John 4:26-30.
7. Record your achievements. John 4:39-40.
