Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th May 2026 – Outline
This passage is a continuation of the judgement on Babylon and the vindication of God’s people. Jeremiah 51:25-26 depict the utter destruction that would come upon Babylon, a type of the world’s system. The prominent, powerful, and arrogant Kingdom of Babylon which destroys the whole earth would be turned into a useless, burnt-out ruin and desolate forever.
This is the reverse of Daniel 2:31-35 and shows that the kingdom of this world, no matter how powerful it may appear, can neither stand against God’s judgement nor endure forever. Read Jeremiah 51:26-27,29-32 again. Take note of the forces God is bringing against Babylon and the demoralization that follows the announcement of God’s judgement. God is actively at work in the affairs of nations. He orchestrates events to fulfil His purposes.
See other graphic imageries used to describe Babylon’s judgement – the final stage of harvest (Jeremiah 51:33), hungry cubs of loin fed a sedative meal (Jeremiah 51:38-39), and lambs to be slaughtered (Jeremiah 51:40-41). Take note of the vindication of God’s people within this announcement of judgement on Babylon (Jeremiah 51:34-44,49-51), and God’s instruction to His people in Jeremiah 51:45-48.
