Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 11 December 2022

Paul and all those on board the ship had survived the hurricane and the storm at sea, starvation and finally, the shipwreck – all these were made possible because Paul chose to worship the Almighty God. Taking refuge in (on) an Island and receiving the hospitality from the people was not all that God wanted to manifest through Paul. God also showed Himself strong and all powerful through Paul, first from the miracle of the viper that did not harm him. Notice the islanders’ cultural belief as relates to Paul’s experience here (vs.4‐6; cf. Acts 14:8‐13).

Is this form of belief practice in your community or church? How can you address it (Isaiah 42:8)? Publius’ father was healed through prayer and the laying on of hands by Paul. This resulted in the healing of all the sick people who came to Paul for healing (v.9). Note that the generosity of the islanders was displayed long before the healing of their sick people. They had shared their material possessions with the stranded visitors, but they got both physical and spiritual healing in return. Their generosity abounded after their miraculous healings (v.10). What lesson(s) can we learn from this passage?
