Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st March 2021 Devotional – Beware Of Unbelief

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Monday 1st March 2021. May you be blessed as you read on

TOPIC: BEWARE OF UNBELIEF

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 3:7 – 19
7So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, 8do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, 9where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. 10That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways., 11So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.,?” 12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin,s deceitfulness. 14We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” 16Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? 18And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

Question(s) for Reflection:
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 1ST MARCH 2021 DEVOTIONAL

The quotation in vs.7-11 is from Psalm 95:7-11. This is a reference to the Israelites who refused to trust God in the wilderness and thus could not enter the land of Canaan. They just rebelled against God, did not believe that He would take care of them. All they did was to criticize, murmur and grumble against God and His chosen leader, Moses. They did not know God’s ways, though He had walked before them.

It is grievous having known the mind and will of God to fall into the sin of unbelief. Remember that anytime the Spirit of God speaks, and we refuse to respond, our hearts become hardened. We should, therefore, be constantly on guard against a heart of unbelief that might cause us to fall away from the living God. It is a serious threat to our walk with God.

Read v.13 again and note the role the Christian community plays in keeping us true to God. We are to encourage one another to identify completely with Jesus Christ. There can always be the temptation to turn to ineffective ways of walking with God when distressing moments come our way. . Notice the warnings in vs. 16 – 19 cf. 1 Cor. 10: 1 – 11.

Practice/Word Application:
• For Meditation: “For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry” (1 Samuel 15:23a).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• Keep me, true to you Lord Jesus.
• Pray for the conversion of unbelieving members of your family and extended family. Pray that God will send them witnesses they can believe.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 40:2 – He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

Bible Reading: Ex. 29-30; James 1
