Scripture Union Daily Guide 29th December 2020 – The Lord Is Our Protector

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide Devotional for Tuesday 29th December 2020. Be inspired by today’s reading. God bless you!

TOPIC: THE LORD IS OUR PROTECTOR

Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: Psalm 125:1–5

Reflection:
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 29th December 2020

Examine carefully the picture the Psalmist paints of the protection the Lord provides for his people. Why are we as secure as Mount Zion? The immovable nature of the mountain points to the unchanging nature of God. Whatever there is in the world may change or may not be available at some point in time. Dependence, therefore, on anything or any person may not be wise.

Read what the Prophet Jeremiah says in this regard in Jeremiah 17:5. The person you depend on may not be there tomorrow, but God lives eternally. In God, our security is a life–time warranty! V.3 is a reference to God’s ideal for his people. Today, the wicked still rules over the godly. How sad! Sin has so much perverted God’s plan for humankind.

Thank God that evil may triumph, but for a short while (compare Revelation 21:1–5). Observe the prayer the Psalmist offered for “those who are good” (v.4) and his nation (v.5). What prayers do you offer for the church in your country and more importantly, for believers? Let us learn from the Psalmist and others to pray for the blessing of God on his saints and on our nation.

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application:
• Meditation: The Lord is a sure refuge for those who look to him in time of dishes; he cares for all who seek his protection..” (NEB).

Prayer:
• Have you said a prayer for your country of late? Do that right now!
• Pray for your Pastor and other Church leaders to be effective in ministry: clarity of message, courage to be scriptural, power of the Holy Spirit and exemplary life style
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Zephaniah 3:20

Read The Bible In One Year: Zech. 13–14; Luke 24:1–35
