• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 November 2023

Tyre was a commercial city famous for its harbour and skilful seamen. Why did God decide to destroy this city? Like other cities that were neighbours to Judah, it exerted some influence on her (see for example 1 Kings 16:31). What do you learn from this? Notice the agony of the sailors from Tyre who were in other cities across the Mediterranean when they learned of its destruction (vs.1-5). Nations that are not founded on God’s principles will lack sustainable peace and this is very typical of many nations.

From vs.6-9 we see another reason why God had planned the fall of Tyre. Money, wealth, and power have a tendency to change many of us. Maybe you are aware of some people, some quite close to you, including pastors, who suddenly grew wealthy after becoming bishops, prophets and apostles and are now inaccessible. Today we see countries that used to fear God, teaching their children and the world that there is no God and others are promoting ancestral worship as part of Africanism. The end of such countries is desolation (vs.10-14) and may those nations that have rooted their faith in God refuse to be lured to take a different direction.

Practice/Word Application
What next? After 70 years, God promised to restore Tyre (vs.15-18). Were there any conditions for this? Read Acts 21:3 – 4 and Ezekiel 26:14 to reflect on God’s impact on Tyre and its status today.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
