SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE DEVOTIONAL 7 OCTOBER 2022

Topic: Hear from heaven and forgive

Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 6:12‐31

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

In vs.14‐17, Solomon started his great intercessory prayer. He did not pray for himself but for the people present and generations unborn. We need to lift up our eyes beyond our immediate surrounding and needs to see far into the future and pray accordingly. We should pray strategic prayers in accordance with God’s will. Solomon was king over many nations but notice in v.13 his acknowledgement of the King who is above all kings. Scripture Union Daily Guide 7 October 2022

Unlike Solomon and other gods, our God is not a territorial God but He rules over all the world. Notice the four specific requests Solomon brought before God in this section. First, is the need for justice among the people (vs.22–23). Miscarriage of justice is common today. The guilty is freed while the innocent is declared guilty. Second is a cry for restoration to the land even when the people are defeated and carried into exile (vs.24–25).

This may have spiritual application for backsliders. See the third and fourth requests in vs.26‐28. There is a common thread that is the cause of all these disasters in vs.24 and 26. Solomon also recognizes the only one way out of the disasters. Our God, the covenant Keeper disciplines, us when we go astray but when we turn to Him in repentance, He forgives and restores us (v.30; cf. Hebrews 12:10–11).
