Scripture Union Daily Guide 7th June 2026 – Outline

What distinguished King David from other leaders in regards to revenge (vs.11-12)? David’s memories of Jonathan remained fresh even though Saul regarded him as an archenemy. David kept his promises to Jonathan, his friend (Proverbs 17:17; 18:24; 27:10). He went in search of anyone left in the house of King Saul to whom he could show favour for Jonathan’s sake.

When the faithful servant of King Saul, Ziba, met with the king, he brought Mephibosheth without delay. From v.7, notice three specificpromises David made to Mephibosheth and his immediate action (v.9). What lesson in leadership compassion do we learn from v.10? Mephibosheth was given a high place of honour, a position reserved for a prince. He was not stigmatized for his physical deformity. This is nothing but grace in action (v.11).

Christ adopted us and made us sit with Him (Ephesians 2:1-6). What endears men to a leader is when such leader exhibits justice equitably.

So what? Mephibosheth benefited from the friendship investment made by his father. What legacy or good will are you leaving behind for your children?

Prayer: O Lord, help me to be a compassionate leader who illuminates the dark world with the love of Christ.
