Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 March 2023

Joel concluded this book with how God would judge some of the nations that contributed to His people’s suffering.

From here, one can almost conclude that the “locusts” earlier discussed in the book could also refer to the armies of these nations. Read again what they did to God’s people in vs.2b-3, 5-6. Does this describe what happens in many of our nations? The strategy God is going to apply here is to strengthen His people to now fight back to reclaim all the captured resources – man, material, mineral (vs.7-8). Power shall change hands and God’s people shall now capture their former captors.

No wonder then that the Prophet calls his people to war (vs.9-16), with words of encouragement that they are fully backed by God (v.16). What a wonderful note of blessings the prophecy is concluding with (vs.17-21)! Apart from Tyre, Sidon and all the Philistines (v.4), the Egyptians and the descendants of Esau (v.19) shall have their own share of God’s recompense for all the evils they did to His people. What comfort should this be for us?

Practice/Word Application
And so? Are you passing through any trouble? Are you under any oppression, human or spiritual? How could 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7 be of comfort to you or someone else known to you? Read and share!

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Turn v.18 into a special prayer of blessings for Africa today.
