Observe how Tyre is pictured as a beautiful ship, made of the finest material from all around the world. Not only was this ship strong and magnificent, it had the best crew imaginable, the best soldiers on board. This combination of beauty and might was overwhelming. This well-run ship traded with many nations and cities. The long list of goods transported by sea on the ships of Tyre is a remarkable insight into its economic greatness. But what brought Tyre down (see v.3)?

Pride in its own glory, pomp and prosperity ultimately led to its downfall. Tyre is an image of our world and its riches. The worldly man acquires riches to gain power. All his efforts in gaining prosperity will not be enough to bring him peace and salvation that cannot be worked out or bought. We should not trust in our material possessions, but our trust should be in God alone. What do we learn from Jesus in Mark 8:36?

• And so? Forbid it Lord that I should boast, Save in the Cross of Christ my God. All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

• Pray for brethren who are suffering from persecution because they are doing the will of God, at home, in their work places and in the nation. Pray for grace to continue in their faith. Pray for Full Gospel Mission.
