SU DAILY GUIDE FOR 5TH JANUARY 2022

Welcome to Scripture Union Daily Guide for Wednesday 5 January 2022, written to inspire and bless you! May the Lord bless you as you study His Word!

TODAY’S TOPIC: IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: Luke 4:14‐21

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

Scripture Union SU Daily Guide 5th January 2022 | Outline

Yesterday’s reading started with “Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan…” where he was baptised by John. Today we see him return to Galilee in the power of the Holy Spirit (v.14). In the power of the Holy Spirit, he taught in various synagogues. Dependence on God’s Spirit precedes any success in ministry. Read v.16 again and note what the Master’s custom was.

For what are you known? What is your custom? We noted on Sunday that John knew his mission and he focussed on it. His mission was prophesied by the angel to Zechariah. his father. Today, we see Jesus also clearly declaring His mission as prophesied first by Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1,2). He came to pronounce salvation to those who identify with their spiritual poverty and deliverance for those who are physically and spiritually bound by the evil one or suffering from spiritual blindness or oppression. We will see how Jesus fulfils this mission as we go through this gospel.

From Christ’s mission statement, what should be our own mission if indeed we are His followers? Proclamation of the gospel message and care for the needy must go hand‐in‐hand if we are to be true heralds of His kingdom.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Help us, dear Lord, to share the gospel through our words and actions.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 37:39
“But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.”

Bible Reading: Genesis 7, 8; Psalm 7
