The world calls it observing protocol – the order of importance. The desire to be at the top of others continues to occupy the minds of many people. This is because greatness implies power, influence, status, recognition, respect and more. This may explain the reason behind the disciples’ question to Jesus (v.1). What, according to Jesus, are the qualities of greatness and leadership (vs.3-4; 20:25-28)? His answer calls for a re-evaluation of our perception of greatness.
The most significant quality of children is their complete dependence on someone else to love and care for them. To become like a child is therefore to renounce any notion of self-importance and self-dependence. This is true humility as seen in Philippians 2:5-8. ‘Little ones’ in v.6 does not refer to children alone. New believers fall into this category. We must beware what example and teaching we give them.
Is the warning in v.10 observed in our Churches today? Members of our body are often entry points for sin. The gravity of sin and its consequence is greatly highlighted by the drastic measures Jesus prescribes in vs.8-9. While these are not meant to be taken literally, the warning is clear: we cannot afford to play with sin.

• So: Watch your eyes what they see (read and watch), your feet where they go and your hand what they touch.

Closing Prayer
• Pray for grace to do this conscientiously.
• Pray for the conversion of unbelieving members of your family and extended family. Pray that God will send them witnesses they can believe.
