Scripture Union SU Daily Guide 6 October 2021 | Be Open To God

Welcome to Scripture Union Daily Guide for Wednesday 6th October 2021. May the Lord bless you as you read, Amen! Kindly share with other people.

SU DAILY GUIDE FOR OCTOBER 6, 2021 WEDNESDAY

Today’s Topic: Be open to God

Open Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Acts 10:1-23a

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow? • Is there any command for me to obey?
Read vs.1-4 again and note Cornelius’ religious credentials. But was he a Christian? Indeed, openness to the gospel and encounter with our Lord Jesus is a condition for becoming a Christian (10:34-36, 43; John 3:3,5). In as much as these godly qualities are good, Cornelius needs to know and believe in Christ Jesus. Hence, God arranges for a preacher (Peter) to accomplish this (vs.5-20).

The Lord is still in the business of sending unsaved souls to us in our day to day encounters. Notice how God dealt with both Cornelius and Peter and their obedience to God’s instructions in vs. 3 – 8, 9 – 23. But Peter’s deep-rooted belief and upbringing in Judaism would have prevented him from accomplishing God’s heart-beat mission (vs.11-23a). Consider other barriers that can also prevent a Christian from preaching the gospel to perishing souls.

Nonetheless, if one is not careful, “holier than thou” attitude, justified hatred, denominational dogmas, ignorance of the scriptures, excuses, convenience, norms, etc., can debar us from carrying out the task of preaching the gospel to all nations (Mark 16:15). Some Christians though knowledgeable in scriptures, are selective in obeying the word of God. As we study and meditate on the scriptures, let us open ourselves to God and allow Him to make changes in our lives.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Lord please, deliver us from everything that hinders us from preaching the gospel. Lord please, deliver us from everything that hinders us from preaching the gospel. •

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 9:9-10
9 The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble.
10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Bible Reading: Ezek. 40-41; John 18:19-40
