Scripture Union Daily Guide 26 October 2026 Outline

The song continues to itemize the series of calamities that God intended to unleash on His people for breaking faith with Him. Disobedience is costly. However, note God’s dilemma in Deuteronomy 32:26-27. The Yorubas say, “’help me discipline my child’ often does not come from the depth of a mother’s heart”. Overdo it and you will face her wrath. Because Israel is called by God’s name, He will not destroy them completely lest the heathen consider Him powerless (cf. Exodus 32:9-14).

We all deserve complete destruction because of our sinfulness but God’s love will not let us go. However, we must never presume upon God’s kindness and love. The experiences of Moses and Aaron are lessons enough for us (Deuteronomy 32:48-51).

This final part of the song gives us these deep insights into how to be wise;

1. Discern what the end will be (Deuteronomy 32:29).

2. Beware of counterfeit rocks instead of the Rock (Deuteronomy 32:31), counterfeit vines instead of the Vine Deuteronomy 32:32; John 15:1,5) and poisonous grapes (Deuteronomy 32:33).

3. Hope that the “Lord will vindicate His people” (Deuteronomy 32:36). Do the songs we sing today help us reflect on these critical issues of life?
