Daily Devotional October 12, 2026: Forget Not All His Benefits
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 103:1-5
“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Start the Week by Remembering
Today is Canadian Thanksgiving, and for many of us it is also Monday. Tables are being set while inboxes fill up. David gives us a simple instruction for a day like this: do not forget.
What the Passage Teaches
Gratitude Takes Effort
David speaks to his own soul: “Bless the LORD, O my soul.” Thankfulness is often a decision we make, not a feeling that arrives on its own.
Forgetfulness Is the Enemy of Thanks
“Forget not all his benefits.” We easily remember what is missing and forget what God has done. David then lists the benefits: forgiveness, healing, rescue, love and good things.
God’s Benefits Are Personal
Each phrase starts with “who”: He forgives, heals, redeems, crowns and satisfies. These are not abstract blessings. They are the actions of a caring Father toward you.
Reflection Questions
- Which of God’s benefits do I most easily forget?
- When did He last rescue, provide or forgive in a way I did not fully thank Him for?
- Who can I thank today for being part of God’s care for me?
Today’s Action Step
Write down five benefits from Psalm 103:3-5 and place a personal example beside each one. Read your list aloud before you start work, or at the Thanksgiving table.
Closing Prayer
Father, I bless Your name. Forgive me for the times I forgot Your goodness. Today I remember Your benefits and thank You with all my heart. Amen.
