TOPIC: THE LORD IS THERE!

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Ezekiel 48:15‐35

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

Daily Guide 12th March 2022 | Scripture Union Devotional | Outline

We have more details of land that was allocated and their use. Note the specific provision made “for the common use of the city, for houses and for pastureland” (v.15). And this is done before the allocation to princes.

The pastureland is to produce food for the inhabitants of the city. Can we see that in God’s heart the food supply “for the workers of the city” (v. 18) comes before those for princes or nobles? How we have turned things upside down in our nations when it comes to allocation of resources! In v.29 we are introduced to the gates of a new city. This new city, not named until the last verse of today’s passage, represents the divine presence of the Lord. If, after all the land allocation has been done and all people settled, the Lord is not there, it would all have been futile.

Hence, see how the passage ends on what is most important: “And the name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE” (v.35). The name, Yahweh Shammah looks ahead to Revelations 21:3 (read it). This important book of Ezekiel ends therefore on a note of peace, order, and reconciliation with God. How else can we experience the presence and power of God? We begin by belonging to him by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Then and only then can we say we abide in a place or city that bears the stamp of ‘The LORD is there!’
