Topic: “You have done a foolish thing” (v.28)

Opening Prayer: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.

Thanks to God for His intervention on behalf of His people (v.24). And does it surprise us that God can speak to someone of another religion? It was a purposeful intervention which is very different from communion with God. Find time to read the story of Balaam in Numbers 22&23. This passage has much about deceit and lies. Jacob deceived Laban (v.26); Rachael deceived Jacob (v.32), and her father (v.35).

Laban himself had been accused of a similar offence in our reading yesterday (v.7). It is like a curse in the whole family. Is there any evil we must get rid of in our home? Notice the sacrifice that Jacob made for his employer, Laban (vs.38‐42). He did much more than was expected. This was good spiritual training for Jacob and he pleased God the more for that. How faithful are you to your employer?

Do you convert the office goods to your private use? We must endeavour to keep a good testimony as Jacob did here. In the heat of the moment, Jacob makes a rash decision which could have cost Rachel her life. Rash decisions sometimes can have dire consequences for us and others (see Matthew 14:6‐9). Are you prone to taking reckless decisions when under pressure or excited?

Closing Prayer
• Oh Lord my God, please free me of deceit so I may be more pleasing before you and your church.

Prayer for the week
• Pray for renewed strength for the Christian race. Pray that God revives your family alter and your personal quiet time. Pray against the light going out in your family alter because of problems.
