TODAY’S TOPIC: COME AND SEE!

Opening Prayer: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 1:43-51

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 4th January 2024

Nathaniel had his reasons to doubt that anything as wonderful as the Messiah could come out of the insignificant rural town of Nazareth (v.46). Such prejudice is not unusual, be it against places or, more seriously, against people. Are there places, communities, ethnic groups, clans, or individuals that make you feel like that?

Philip was another disciple of Jesus of whom we hear nothing outside of the Gospels. (Philip the evangelist in the Book of Acts is a different person). In today’s devotion, we see Philip, like Andrew, introducing someone to Jesus (vs.42 and 46). “Come and see” was his response to Nathaniel’s doubtful hesitation. It is important that we too encourage people to experience Jesus Christ for themselves instead of relying on hearsay evidence. We will see another example in Chapter 4.

Nathaniel believed when he experienced the supernatural knowledge that Jesus Christ had of him (v.50). Sometimes, Jesus gives such supernatural knowledge to His followers to bring people to Himself. But we do not have to see before we believe. Read His words to doubting Thomas in John 20:26-29.

Practice/Word Application
So what? Once we have met with Jesus, we should eagerly introduce Him to our friends, family, and all those we love.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, teach me to follow you faithfully and give me grace and wisdom to bring others to know you.
