Today’s Topic: Mind Battles
Scripture: So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. 1 Peter 1:13, NLT
Today’s Word
Too often we go through the day failing to realize the battle that is going on in our mind. If you have a sudden pain in your side, thoughts will start telling you, “That’s serious. It’s either your kidneys or liver.” If you don’t have a disciplined mind, you’ll get all panicked, start imagining worst-case scenarios and writing out your will, when it was just indigestion. If you go to a job interview, you imagine that you’re not going to get it, that the interviewer is not going to like you. You’re defeating yourself before you go.
You control what plays in your mind. If you let negative imaginations play in your mind, you will live negatively, and you’ll never know what you could have become. You have to prepare your mind to face negativity and exercise control over your thoughts. The Scripture says to “think on things that are of good report,” to think on what God says about you. Whatever is trying to stop you is no match for the Creator of the universe. Keep the right thoughts playing in your mind.
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for giving me Your promises to meditate upon. Thank You that Your Word instructs me to think on things that are true and right, wholesome, pure, and of good report. I declare that I will exercise self-control over the thoughts playing in my mind and win the battle. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Don’t let people talk you out of what God spoke to you. If God wants you to do something different, He’ll tell you. You don’t have to rely on someone else to hear from God. Everyone is not who they say they are. This is where discernment comes in. The Scripture talks about testing the spirit. What is their track record? Do they have any fruit? Are there other people who can vouch for them? Don’t get caught up in their charisma, how articulate they are. “They look so impressive.” You have to go beyond face value. Listen to what you’re feeling on the inside. The Holy Spirit will warn you. They may look the part, sound the part, but you feel this uneasiness, this unrest, something says, “It’s not right.” Don’t ignore it. That’s the spirit of discernment helping you to know things that you can’t see. You can’t see motives. You can’t see intentions. But because of the integrity of your heart, God will keep you from making a mistake.
