PRAISE & WORSHIP

It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. Every choice you make has consequences. You are free to choose, but you are not free to alter the consequences of your decisions. Every day, life offers us opportunity to make choices. It is our responsibility to ensure that the choices we make are godly.

After establishing the terms of the covenant he was entering into with Israel, God said, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19).

The Lord seeks to enter into a covenant relationship with people. He spells out the terms of the covenant and tells people to choose life or death. He desires Israel and ultimately all people to choose life. He gives people the power to choose His love or reject it.

Choosing life involves loving God. Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength.

Choosing life also means to walk in God’s ways. Adam and Eve had a choice to obey God or do what they wanted. When they obeyed God, they enjoyed life, dominion and perfection. But when they chose to rebel, they reaped the consequences of death and curses.

Third, choosing life means to keep God’s commandments. Jesus said, “If you love me you will keep my commandments.” When you keep God’s commandments, you will earn His love, honour and life.

Reuben did not choose life. He slept with his father’s wife and earned a curse. Solomon chose to marry women from the land of the heathen. They drew his heart away from Jehovah. Samson chose to disregard his Nazarite rules and God’s commandments. He ended his life in regrets.

Orpah went back to Moab while Ruth followed Naomi back to her native land. We never heard of Orpah anymore, thereafter. Ruth became a grandmother of Jesus Christ.

Can you see the difference between two decisions and their consequences? Beloved, be wise!
