OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 20TH JANUARY 2021

There are basically three different types of Tithes the people of Israel were instructed to give and the category of people who were to benefit from these tithes. Read vs.23b and 29b for the reasons for these tithes God delights in the wellbeing of His people and therefore every action of His is directed towards our benefit.

Tithe of the Feast (vs.22-26): The Israelites were instructed to bring this Tithe to the presence of God at the place He chose for Himself. This constitute their Tithe of “grains, new wine, and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks”. They were to take part in eating this Tithe before the Lord their God and in the company of families, friends and other Israelites.

Tithe for the Levites (vs.27-28a; Numbers 18:21-24): The Priests who were dedicated to serve in the Temple of God were not given inheritance among the people. They were to benefit from the Tithe belonging to God. This type of Tithe is still being practised in the Church today in order to take care of the Ministers of God.

Tithe for the poor and the needy (vs 28-29): This Tithe was to take care of foreigners, the poor and the widows among them. We must note that we cannot live in sin and expect God to bless us because of our Tithes. God cannot be bribed! Our not giving of tithes and offerings amounts to robbing God and it attracts his curse, but when we give them, we attract his blessings and he rebukes devourers for our sakes (Mal. 3: 8 – 12).
