Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 December 2022
Have you ever been side‐tracked from what God calls you to do and find you end up messing up your life? Consider the way Josiah swerved from spiritual reforms to go into military adventures (v.20). All through his life, Josiah had been prompt to listen to God’s Word but here he failed to inquire from Him about this battle but trusted his own judgment (v.22).
Often, we think that God works in the same way all the time. Josiah did not discern that God could use anyone and anything to accomplish His plans, even Neco, the pagan Egyptian king. When in doubt, especially when messages come from sources we least expect, let us be quick to seek the Lord’s leading and take appropriate action that is in line with His will. What can we learn from Josiah’s attitude in v.22? Stubbornness and failure to obey God and His commands can only bring disastrous results (vs.23‐24).
Unfortunately, the negative consequence is often not limited to us. Other people are also negatively affected.
