TOPIC: TO SAVE US, HE BECAME ONE OF US
OPENING PRAYER: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrew 2:10 -18
10In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.12He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.” 13And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again he says, “Here am I, and the children God has given me.” 14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death?that is, the devil? 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham,s descendants. 17For this reason he had to be made like them,fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

MESSAGE: SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 27TH FEBRUARY 2021 DEVOTIONAL
Before the fall, man had unrestrained fellowship with the Father. But sin broke that relationship and fear set in (Genesis 3: 8-11). But as we noticed in v.9 yesterday, Jesus lowered Himself to become man to save mankind. Notice what this great act of love entails in vs.10-11 and 14 and the results (vs.14b-15, 10a). So, the message delivered by Jesus is not just a verbal or the written message like the Law.
It involved His status, His life, His all. He went through all these humiliations to bring redemption to man and to restore him to the original position of glory. He conquered death and the devil that possessed the power of death. What a love! We no longer need to fear death. Today, many Christians detest any form of suffering.
A suffering-free gospel is unbalanced and dangerous. To truly be His disciples, we must not run away from suffering especially when it has to do with our faith (cf. 1 Peter 2:20-22). What encouragement is there for us in v.18 as we go through suffering and trials?
Practice/Word Application:
• Meditation: Jesus is the author of our salvation (v.10), our brother (v.11) and High Priest (v.17). Which of these “pictures” of Jesus means most to you? Meditate on this throughout the day.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
• Thank you, dear Lord, for delivering me from the fear of death and the devil.
• Ask the Lord to go ahead of you into the coming week and make your way smooth and safe.
Prayer For The Week:
Pray for unity among Christian leaders and support for each other. Pray for the brethren facing trials and for God’s intervention. Pray that the glory of God will return in our land. Pray for the Church of God Mission.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Joel 2:32 – And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.
