TODAY’S TOPIC: THERE IS HOPE AFTER THIS LIFE!
Open Prayer: Dear Lord, expose me to your truth as I read your word in Jesus name.

Reflection
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Today’s Outline: While some left their jobs expecting Jesus would soon come back, others started worrying about their fellow Christians who had died. Notice however, the response of the apostle to their misconception in vv.13–14. His intention is to dissuade them from excessive grieving for departed relations.
Grieving for the loss of loved ones or friends is not unchristian. Only we must not grieve as people who have no hope (v.13). Because we have the hope of eternal life, we know we will soon meet, to part no more. Take note of what is said about those who die in the Lord: They have fallen asleep in Christ (v.13, cf. 1 Corinthians 15:17–18). Death does not overpower them. It is rather a temporary repose.
They shall be awakened and raised up to meet the Lord in the air (v.14). They with us will be for ever with the Lord (v.17). The doctrine of the resurrection and the second coming of Christ is a great antidote to the fear of death and excessive sorrow for the departed. Prayer
• Thank you Father, that because Jesus Christ lives, the terror of death is swallowed up in his victory.
• Praise God for the grace that made you a Christian and the empowerment to be a faithful witness.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 46:10
